Darn those addictive ingredients

To quote a movie (which I'm really really never good at doing)- So I Married An Axe Murderer- what's his name talks about how there is some kind of addictive ingredient in KFC's fried chicken (which I happen to agree with). Same goes here, once you get a bite of those yummy girl scout grasshopper cookies you've already reached the point-of-no-return - they're addictive! Seriously, I have yet to meet someone who doesn't sneak a cookie until they're all gone- usually within the same hour as they were bought. It's a conspiracy....truly.

Ok, I think I have a sugar problem. Well, I know I've been very partial to sweets for the past 27 of my 28 years (that no sugar thing as a baby rules out that year right) - but since I've had the baby - oh how I've longed for the sweet goodies of the Earth. That's right, it's not just grasshopper cookies (though those have been my most recent obsession)- it's pretty much anything that has enough sugar in to feed a gazillion bazillion ants for eternity (thanks to Devaughn for the unique time frame). I really really like the glazed Krispy Kreme doughnuts - but they must be fresh or it loses much of its savor.

As Slade is still nursing I think he's going to have some serious sugar issues as well. I've already figured that one out though...I'm going to be a do as I say mom and not a do as I do and I'll stash away the goodies for myself. He'll be none the wiser! Mark takes issue with that, he also takes issue with the fact that I refuse to eat fish (except tuna, who can turn that down?), peas, green beans, grapefruit, canned fruit, soft carrots and much of the like. Drown my salad in raspberry vinagarrette, give me as much butter, sour cream, and bacon bits as there is baked potato, give me a side of ranch with everything, give me lots of syrup for those oh-so-yummy IHOP pancakes, give me lots and lots of marshmallows in my Marshmallow Mateys, New York Cheesecake, rice krispy treats, brownies with icing (I think they only do that in Utah) - and I'm all about it. Just let me eat cream cheese eclairs for breakfast, those generic marshmallow rounds from Wal-Mart for lunch, and flan for dinner with a side of oreo ice cream for dessert. Ok, so I don't really eat that way, but I'm picturing that is what heaven will be like for me. My mansion's pantry will be stocked with only the good stuff! Acting as if he's a sweet old lady with none of my barbaric sugar inclinations, Mark claims he can't stomach many sweets, but stick a few here and there around the kitchen and he sniffs them out like a vengeful bloodhound in no time and by day's end the kitchen is like a deserted town in an old western- empty wrappers blowing across the lonely floor and skeletal dogs roaming around for non-existent scraps.

On a side note, I have no idea why I cannot seem to lose this 'baby' weight, it won't budge?

I love my life

How could life be better? I love my family - even Harley and Moose. My husband is wonderful, my baby is wonderful, my life is wonderful. I am a very contented woman. There are things I want and long for that will come in time, I can wait, I'm learning patience very quickly - but I have all the things I'll ever need now (well, more children to come)! I am a lucky woman, I have a great life.

Mark and I just gave a talk yesterday in our ward from this past General Conference. Mark's was about procrastination and living your life now and mine was about the talk by Elder BAllard, "Daughters of God'. I pulled a little of Sister Becks talk from the conference before this last one into it ('Mothers Who Know'). I am so grateful to be a stay-at-home mom - I would hate to have to leave Slade and not know what he is up to every second of the day! He is such a happy littlg guy these days (now that the teething has stopped...for the moment I'm sure) - and is such an easy smiler! My sister calls him the Chinaman when he smiles b/c his eyes almost disappear (sorry if that's not pc to some of you :). Daddy makes him laugh like crazy with all of his silly games and his laugh is so adorable! Sometimes he'll start laughing before Mark even touches him b/c of the anticipation- Mark says he's all about the build up! Anyhow, Slade was great with Grandma and Aunt Katie and Uncle Ryan while we gave our talks. He's very fascinated with the 'toys' that come out of Grandma's bag- truthfully so was I. I've never known so much of an odd collection of items (a plastic tsp measurer, christmas hand lotion, little books) could all fit into a scripture bag.

Oh yeah, Slade also got his first total 'mom's haircut! I tried to cut his hair from behind while he played with toys. When I went to investigate my work I found Floyd from Dumb and Dumber! Seriously, Mark called him Floyd and laughed every time he looks at him. I broke down and took him to Cookie Cutters - a kids haircutting place just up the street. They did a great job and now I can spike up his hair in the front , soooo cute! I took about fifty pictures of him sitting in the toy car while the stylist was cutting his hair. What a stud. I'll post pics soon.

Hope everyone is having a great week! Love you all!

A Day In The Life Of Slade...

What an easy life. I guess we all have lived the 'good life' that a baby does haven't we- man, too bad we can't remember it to fully enjoy and appreciate it! Slade wakes up, cries, is fed, changed, dressed, eats breakfast, then Slade watches one Baby Einstein DVD. Now 2 hours later Slade naps again for several hours then wakes again wanting to nurse, be changed, and play. 3 hours later Slade is ready to nap again. Then Slade wakes up, nurses, and plays some more while mom makes dinner, then goes walking with dad and Moose....ah what a life...oh but wait, 3 hours later Slade is ready to sleep for 10 hours and so on! Change me, nurse me, burp me and I'm ready to go! What a life!!!

Oh yeah, Slade's cutting his 2nd tooth- what an almost nightly joy that is. Makes you REALLY appreciate what our parents went through with us. He really is our pride and joy though. Everywhere I go people tell me how cute he is, even big burly Home Depot guys - he really is, well, I'm his mom I suppose I'd feel that way no matter. Everywhere we go lately he likes to talk, sounds like 'bababababababa' over and over and over again. I love to hear it, so instead of plugging him up with a binky I just let him do it. The older folks get a kick out of it. He's also in the early stages of crawling I think, using his knees a lot more when I put him down for his rare tummy time (he'd rather bounce in his jumperoo or play with mom or dad). Thank goodness little boys have dads- I'd never think of the ways to entertain and get him to laugh as much as Mark does! Our brains truly are wired differently in wonderful ways! I'm so glad I could give my children such a wonderful, hardworking, though underapprecated father. :)

Life is going very well for us. I'm blessed with the love of an absolutely wonderful man and cutest baby as well as wonderful extended family. I'm still hoping that Utah grows on me someday. Mark loves the beauty of it, whereas I am hard pressed to enjoy the endless miles of deadly brown-ness. The people are different too, not quite as open or friendly as my friends in the South. I miss just being able to strike up a conversation with the southern gas station attendant with their adorable accents and original vernacular and actually care about how their day is going and vice versa. Maybe it's just "city" life...? Maybe I just need more sleep. Mark teases me that I talk too much and share too much (we are on very opposite ends of the embarrassment spectrum)- well admittedly maybe he has a point at times, all I have to say in return is that I appreciate people who do share (yes, I admit there is such a thing as too much sharing). It's just like service work in a way, when we generate interest in others and truly want to understand them and be there for them - we don't focus on ourselves as much and we are open to endless possibilities and opportunities. Isn't that the gospel in a nutshell? Well, if you're not that way already then parenthood certainly puts you in your place in that way - your life is truly intertwined with others eternally!

On a different note, we've started a Moms Club in our great ward (there are seriously like 10 babies born in the past 6 months or being born in the next 6 months in our ward- my little sister Katie's included!). We will walk/jog/bike together, go to library baby storytime, go swimming, have playgroups, go to the zoo, etc... I love the girls and their babies, relief society has enriched my life now like I've never let it before - also Slade seems to really enjoy the interaction as well (he likes the little girl babies the most!)- I really do have a great life!

When I first had Slade I wondered how I'd ever fill up my days, now I wonder how I ever got anything done working at a f/t job or how I will fit everything into a day (especially 'me' time)! I love being busy, having 'to dos', and just playing with Slade. Poor Mark often wonders aloud what a day in the life of me is like (that and how he'll get me to stop watching HGTV)!

Yep, more sleep it is- good night one and all!
