What you will not see people in mainstream media taking issue with is the following part of this post.
I was quite taken aback with the closing prayer by Rev. Joseph Lowery who is, "a United Methodist considered the dean of the civil rights movement, focused on poverty and social justice."
The following is the first part of his prayer (which you will see quoted online):
"Lord, on the complex arena of human relations, help us to make choices on the side of love, not hate. On the side of inclusion, not exclusion. Tolerance, not intolerance," he said.
Very nice, I agreed- it's always good to be loving and tolerant of those different from you (as long as it doesn't include infringing upon the rights of others, especially abortion of course). THEN he concluded the prayer with the following (which you are NOT likely to see people talk about though they SHOULD as they would for any other extremely bigoted and racist statement - especially from SELECTED BY THE PRES. HIMSELF someone giving such an important and public "prayer" as this one):
Then he ended his prayer with, “Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get back, when brown can stick around – when yellow will be mellow – when the red man can get ahead, man – and when white will embrace what is right.”
Obama reacted to the benediction with a smile.
The crowd cheered and boomed with a loud “Amen.”
You can read more of the deciphering of this prayer from a rational perspective at http://www.worldnetdaily.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=86675.
I'm fairly confused by this- isn't the huge percentage of voters that voted for Obama WHITE?? I don't know where to begin or end with yesterday's proceedings and it's just more of the same old anyway. I felt the need to post about this "prayer" though b/c it was just TOO much and the lack of its coverage by the media who has just adored tearing up anyone who dares to make a statement like this isn't apalling in itself. I've heard nothing of being offended by the content of the last prayer on a religious or any other level- WOW. Has our country not come a long way that people keep referring to Obama being elected as only the beginning of reparations to be made in this country. WOW. That's what maintaining poverty and and anything-but-Capitalist society is all about. What can you give me today- it's never enough, I want more more more but I certainly don't want to work for it.
I was running on the treadmill (my foot is healed with new shoes!!) today and heard a new song by Britney Spears come on. I can't remember them word for word and I turned it SHORTLY thereafter, but it goes something like, "Some people were born to be entertainers and some people were born to serve." Not a lot of options to be important in that statement is there? Isn't that how society is shaping up? Entertainers are glorified, given talk shows, given air time to spout uneducated nonsense, given awards for doing NOTHING NOTHING NOTHING but pretending to be something they're not cool enough to really be- but this is how society sees it. Those who are entertainers are really worth something and we should all aspire to be one. Those who are NOTS- should just keep their mouths shut, keep funding the entertainment industry like mindless zombies, and let them handle it all. The Presidency is not an entertainment industry- the new President is a Rock Star by societal standards. He can rock a speech or a lucky campaign - but nothing else of real value. We know this because he has not demonstrated anything in his past that would suggest otherwise. If you listen to President Obama on occassion you will hear him often refer to anyone not in his immediate political realm as 'Ordinary'. He is now going to be entitling us 'Ordinary' people to things of government that have been kept under wraps- many for extremely good reason, but that doesn't matter. From this point forward there will be no lies, deceptions, or information held back. Us lucky ordinary folk will finally get a say. Now that's very nice of him isn't it?
Anywho, I tried to explain the prayer to Mark, who wouldn't you know was working a nice 12 hour day- as usual- to get ahead in life and make it so there will be tax dollars to steal for the "poor", but he just wasn't getting the full effect of it until he went online to read it himself. He asked me if that is really what the guy had said and then laughed for the rest of the night. Nothing surprises him anymore.

Get this...people in my ward have been writing on their blogs how much they LOVED that part of his prayer and how awesome they thought it was that he said that. I feel like I am losing my mind. I do appreciate that you are seeing it too though. I am afraid I offended too many of my friends to keep being as blunt as I had been on my blog. I am tempted to start again though. :)
Jayme- I really cannot believe that people have reacted the way that they have. I too feel like crazy has become the new norm. I too have alienated some friends w/ my posts.
Here's the thing- mainstream media is what is now guiding our society. It tells us what to watch, who's important, and what values or morals we should hold and what we shouldn't. They're screwed up, thus what they portray is wrong and ill for society.
If not for us, then who will maintain values and morals and teach them to the forthcoming generations. That is what I worry about.
It's funny b/c some friends have obviously backed off whereas other (more thankfully) share my opinion, but only under wraps. They never comment on my blog but always when we get together- privately. I'm just thankful that even if they're not openly speaking out for them at least they live them and teach them to their kids.
I think you should keep posting. You don't have to super often, but why should friends get offended by sharing how you feel about things? Are we all supposed to maintain the exact same beliefs in order to get along? If people get offended by how you feel b/c they don't agree with it and that changes their relationship with you then it tells you something important about the relationship in the first place. There are things we can and can't do without- morals and making the right decision in the face of a society that is going downhill are more important.
Thanks for sharing, I really did enjoy your other posts and it seemed like there were lots of other affirmative comments.
I don't want to say something cheesy like 'Keep up the good fight" but I feel like that's really what it's turning into. Obamians will never question The One b/c the media doesn't so anything anyone says that goes against the grain will always be taken as warped or antiquated.
Ahh, I'm so frustrated.
I am so frustrated too. I mostly stopped posting because I got a few emails about offending people, but also because I had my baby a little early and he had a few problems. I was so distracted for a few months that I didn't even have time to think about all of this. It was kind of nice. :) But now he is doing great and I have figured out a good routine with the two of them and I have more time to depress myself by reading about what is happening in the world. I actually think that the majority of people probably don't think like Obama and probably have a lot of the same values we do. People are going to have to start standing up and making themselves heard. Look what happened with Proposition 8. Unfortunately, too many got caught up in the hype of Obama and they don't even know what he really believes. Scary stuff.
Wow, people emailed you b/c they were offended? People just stopped reading mine and have shunned me. Don't know which way I prefer. haha.
I saw about your boy btw- he is adorable and I was happy to see him doing better. I couldn't imagine anything scarier for a parent with a new baby!
I'm like you- I try to distance myself from it for awhile but get sucked right back in b/c I'm so worried about what is going on now. FOCA is such a HUGE deal- the biggest thing since Roe v. Wade I'd venture to say and it is scary.
I think many people voted for Obama not knowing anything about his background or values- they just assumed the media was giving them good info. and that he is The Chosen One. But now he is in office and things are changing pretty quickly already. I believe he is making history with his issuance of Executive Orders thus far isn't he? Bush issues a few and is called a Barbaric Tyrant. Oh how the tides have changed...but that's what we voted for right?
I totally agree, people cannot sit back any longer and claim indifference to politics b/c it'll affect them either way - especially now w/ our tax money being used to fund issues we preach and believe against- strongly! Look at society now- I can't watch a show on TV (well, maybe HGTV :) without witnessing the serious decline in values and morals in America. With all of the awards shows applauding fakeness and baseness and Miss America pageants of skimpy dressed women parading around for the world to see to name a few- do we not thinking anything of these things? I know of many people who LIVE and breathe for these shows to come on. They claim they can't stand politics and need a break from real life all the while they subject themselves to and get the producers to produce more of- these shows that tear down society, literally. Look how families are falling apart, reporting bankruptcy, becoming so liberalized to issues our ancestors would find abhorrent today. It is scary stuff.
I'm happy to see people starting to take a stand and put Conservatism in the spotlight more- but when it comes to mainstream media the fight's gonna have to get much bigger.
I teach primary, and every week I realize more and more how far removed we are from where we should be. I suppose it's no surprise what's coming eventually but I would like for my kids to know me as someone who was active in her beliefs.
Whew- ok, so good luck with posting some more. I think there can be ways for it to be done well, but it's so hard to remove the emotion from it, though I'm not sure it should be removed from it either? I hate quoting scripture b/c I'm hugely imperfect but people know what's right and wrong and they take the truth hard. No one wants to hear from someone else that what they're doing is not right, but the media is relentless, they'll always be there spewing and tainting with so few questioning or judging them for not going with the flow. It's us dang, pesky, 'uneducated' 'rebels' who don't understand what Obama is trying to do for us, that can't seem to get a clue and expect more of each other and hope for a better world for our children.
Man, talk about cliches, I need to stop now! :) Good luck.
