What's wrong with my foot?

Ok, this is really a question of who knows a good podiatrist. I have started back at the gym again recently and my right foot hurts some when I run but leaves me practically crippled for a day or so afterwards. It's the outside middle area of the foot where it ridges out (what the heck is that part called again?).

I don't know if it is just because I'm so much fatter than I have ever been in my life and my body is balking against me or what because I used to be a fairly avid runner before baby - and my only issue has always been my left knee, off and on (does anyone have any remedies for that either, I'm too lazy to go see the Dr. about it but just may make this a year of healing my body with routine Dr. visits until I've got a clean bill of health).

Unrelated to running, I also apparently developed plantar faceitis (spelling??) in my left foot (yes this does mean both of my poor feet are afflicted, but I won't complain too much, I'm no Job...yet). I assume this an accurate diagnosis as it came from my OB who refused to let me believe that the pain was just pregnancy related (it started during pregnancy but hasn't ended after soo....thinking he was right about that one) and referred me to a Dr. - which I did not go to at the time believing the pain would be delivered with the ginormous baby. When I was pregnant I would try to bend over to wash my legs during my shower routine and it felt severe pin pricks in my feet - like I was pulling some strings too tightly or something. I would post a picture of my foot for a visual, but I'm thinking you don't want to see my seriously flaking gold toe nail polish or hairy toes - plus it would do no good, the problems are internal so an external visual will prove futile for a helpful diagnosis.

Does anyone have any advice or a good Dr. to recommend? It's funny b/c after I got married I didn't want to work out as much and would claim 'sickness' or pain to get out of it...to Mark I suppose, now when I really want to I feel like an idiot b/c that really is the excuse! My feet can't take any more abuse but I must lose weight...the show must go on!

BTW Happy New Year to you all!

I finally found a foot doctor on my insurance. His name is Schiffgen (I think that's the spelling), but he's all the way over in Alta View. Mine was getting so bad that it would start to kill even if I walked through Harmon's. My pain is also on the outside middle part of my left foot and shoots up into my 3 - 5 toes and into my ankle. He determined I have a severe case of tendonitis. I walk on the outside of my foot and he thinks I just keep straining it every time I exercise or even walk on it. I was given orthodics that I have to wear with the bad foot having a little extra support. I've seen an improvement, but it's only been two weeks. I have a follow-up next week. I always go barefoot, so now I have to wear crocs in the house and more supportive shoes just around.

Anyway, not sure if that helps, but thought I'd give you my 2 cents. Good luck!

The other thing it could be are your shoes...if you're running with poopy shoes, you will hurt like the mother load.

I AM going to get new shoes with all of my foot drama as of late- great suggestion!

Judy- now I'm convinced I've got what you do. I'm seriously worried I've crippled myself- the pain is worse than pregnancy!!! I think your podiatrist is too far away, but I've found one closeby on our ins. I'll be going to. Thanks for the suggestios.

It doesn't sound like over training but if you've jumped back into running and are trying to do what you used to- it very well may be contributing. New shoes are really important - and the right shoes. I have wasted money on shoes because they were cheaper than the ones I needed in a hope to save money. All that happened is that I got shin splints and had to buy new shoes. You might want to go to a running store and try some on. They will often let you run for a bit on a treadmill and video tape you to check that the shoes are working with your stride. then after they recomend a shoe you can price shop.

Ok Terra- so I found a place extremely nearby and did the video tape treadmill thing and turns out I am slightly pronated inward. I tried on some shoes and found the Saucony Omni 7 Ultimate Stability Size 8.5 fit well with lots of cushioning. I priced matched it and the cheapest I can find it is the original price of $100. Is there somewhere you've found that has great prices??

My foot's actually feeling way better. It'll feel better for a few days then have a slight relapse then feel better again?

That's pretty much all of the news on my end these days- we should connect soon to catch up!! I'll call ya.
