Lost & Found

To say that Slade gets into everything and views everything as his own personal playground would be an understatement. I didn't realize how much control he secretly has over everything until last night. I was washing dishes in the kitchen after dinner when Mark called my name in a very serious tone. Annoyed I cut off the water and answered back using the same tone in reply. Come to find that Slade had made off with the USB licensing thing that he plugs into his computer that contains the licenses to all of his music recording equipment (one very magical and expensive USB Key!). Without it his equipment is useless- can we say bad idea to #1 have it out for Slade's access and #2, well, to have it out for Slade's access?

For the next hour we tore the house apart searching for it. I initially thought that it would be easy to find and checked all of Slade's convenient hiding places (he currently likes to 'hide' everything in our bathroom trash can) - nothing. We then progressed to the idea that he perhaps threw it away into our shred bin which I dumped the week before but may have not yet been picked up by the garbage man. I headed outside while Mark scoured the rest of the house in total desperation. I pulled out our Recycle Bin over to the outside light and searched through it but only remnants of Slade's birthday party remained. With resignation and complete disgust I went through the TRASH trash can- dirty diapers, dead bird body from Mark's last hunting kill (yes, that was quite a disorienting suprise!), and basic trashy items- YUCK. NOTHING.

I came back inside determined to find at least one more place to look...the closet. He loves to put things in our closet when it's open. I open the doors and just sit there and stare trying to think back to the last week and a thought popped into my head out of nowhere- well other than the fact that I'd been praying hardcore to find it. I remembered a time like a week ago where Slade fussed when I put a pair of Mark's 'leisure' shoes away. I thought it was odd at the time, but he's fickle and got over it pretty quickly so I didnt think twice. Sure enough, when I picked up the shoes the USB thingy fell right out. Playing lost and found with Slade is just so much fun. As a side note, we also found a perfectly good binky, one of his baby toys, and 4 perfectly good tampons in the bathroom trash can. Mental note to self: Check bathroom trash can more often or keep him the heck outta there!
